Will we live to see another day?

A gentle breeze decides to grace us with its tender touch. Oh, what a simple gesture that is an incredible miracle in times like these. Looking up, I see the veil enclosing the heavens above bearing blue, pink, and orange hydrangeas. Such majestic sights, just like that day.

A day long forgotten where the skies contemplated the disgrace that had befallen me. Oh, what a despairing thing it was to hold in my hands the most unfortunate chick. So young, yet so disgraceful as it was born to be taken into death’s embrace…. Truly a calamity, for there was naught I could do to stop it. Nevertheless, I stayed. Together, we spent its last moments looking at a sky it’d never see again until it took its last breath.

Rising from the past, I stare at the root of my anguish. Hookie, my pal and also not my dog, gazes back and… licks me... Funny enough, this simple action makes me accept that, like that chick, it will die… Yet, just as then, it’s better we live as happily as we can in our near future.
