The clairvoyant

At the carnival I found inside a showcase a bust of a tin fortune teller who promised an answer for a coin.

“What do you want to know about your future?” She asked me.

“What should I do for a living?”

“If you desire to know your destiny, then you should become a clairvoyant.”

She closed her eyes and the light turned off

“If I wanted to find out on my own, I wouldn’t have asked you!” I shouted.

I left sulking and with less money, but thinking about it. Maybe I could answer my question and many more. So I started learning about the topic, consulting manuals and observing wise seers. I broke several crystal balls along the way, but I ended up in a cabinet answering trivial queries. Years passed without a reply, until a trainee I was instructing asked me:

“How did you know clairvoyance was your vocation?”

“It isn't, it's just what I do while I‘m waiting to be able to find it.”

“Well, I hope that what I dedicate my time to until I discover my calling is as fulfilling as it’s been for you.”
