 Dreams

Suddenly, I woke up. I was naked again, and only the remains of yesterday’s fire kept me warm. I put on my bison coat and looked around.

My parents and my brother were waking up beside me in the cold cave. My dream had felt so real that, in our primitive language, I tried to explain what I had seen. There were huge birds that swallowed people and carried them far away. There were also enormous animals that did the same, except they did not fly. They had round legs and ran incredibly fast.

I saw frozen lakes inside every home where people could see themselves. Stranger still, people carried tiny lakes in their hands and stared at moving images inside them.

Food was already dead and stored together, and to eat it, they only had to give shiny stones to another human.

My mother interrupted me. “Son, none of that makes sense. Stop dreaming and focus on your future. Look, there is an antelope we can hunt!”
